Extended range matters in Nevada. Whether you're running a remote job site in the high desert, hauling equipment through areas without fuel stops, or heading deep into the backcountry for a multi-day trip, a transfer tank lets you carry extra fuel safely and access it without jerry cans. We carry tanks designed for trucks, sized for real-world use, and installed to meet DOT requirements.

Titan Fuel Tanks

Titan specializes in auxiliary and replacement fuel tanks and they're one of the most respected names in the category. Their transfer tanks are built from heavy-gauge aluminum and are designed to fit in your truck bed without sacrificing full use of the space. The build quality is consistent and the fitment is clean — they look purpose-built rather than bolted-on.

Transfer Flow

Transfer Flow makes both auxiliary transfer tanks and replacement tanks that integrate with your factory fuel system. Their transfer tanks are available in multiple capacities and come in aluminum or poly construction. Transfer Flow is particularly well-regarded for their pump systems and the reliability of their transfer mechanisms over long service life.

UWS

UWS (United Welding Services) makes toolboxes and transfer tanks from marine-grade aluminum. Their crossover and L-shaped transfer tanks maximize bed space efficiency and the aluminum construction means no rust concerns over the life of the product.

Gravity Feed vs. Pump Transfer

Gravity-feed tanks rely on elevation to move fuel — the tank sits above the receiving tank and fuel flows downhill. They're simple, have no moving parts, and don't require power. The tradeoff is that transfer is slow and you need the truck to be on level or downhill-favorable ground.

Pump-equipped tanks use an electric pump to move fuel regardless of vehicle orientation. Transfer is faster and works in any position. For contractors who need to refuel equipment quickly, a pump setup is worth the additional cost and complexity.

Regulatory and Safety Notes

Fuel transfer tanks are regulated by DOT when used for transportation on public roads. Tanks must be approved for their intended use — fuel, auxiliary fuel, or non-fuel liquids. We only carry and install DOT-compliant tanks. If you have questions about what's legal for your application, we'll walk you through it before you buy.

Professional Installation

Transfer tank installation involves secure bed mounting, fuel line routing, and — for pump systems — proper electrical connections. A poorly installed tank is a safety hazard. We handle full installation at both our Reno and Carson City locations and ensure everything is properly secured and compliant before the truck leaves the shop.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much additional range can a transfer tank add?

It depends on tank size and your truck's fuel economy. A 50-gallon transfer tank on a truck averaging 15 miles per gallon adds roughly 750 miles of additional range. We can help you size the tank based on your typical use case.

Can I use a transfer tank for diesel and gasoline?

Transfer tanks are typically designed for one fuel type and should only be used for that purpose. Mixing tank use between fuel types is a safety and regulatory issue. If you need both, you'll want separate dedicated tanks.

Do transfer tanks affect my bed payload rating?

Yes — a full transfer tank adds significant weight. A 50-gallon tank of diesel weighs around 370 pounds when full. You'll want to account for that in your payload calculations, especially if you're also hauling cargo or towing.
